Midweek Devotion – “Faith That Does Something”

Scripture: “Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.” – James 1:22

This week, the headlines are loud again. Voices rise, tempers flare, and the cycle of outrage spins faster than ever. Social media, news outlets, and conversations at the coffee shop are filled with sharp words, strong opinions, and a heavy sense of division.
James reminds us that faith isn’t proven by how loudly we argue our position or how fiercely we defend “our side.”
Faith shows up in action—especially in moments when the world is watching. Real faith rolls up its sleeves and demonstrates Christ’s love through listening, serving, and living differently.
Instead of being swept into the cycle of reaction and outrage, what if we became people who let the Word of God take root so deeply that our response is steady, gracious, and active in love? What if the loudest thing about us wasn’t our opinion, but our compassion?

Reflection Question:
Where is God inviting you this week to turn listening into action—and action into love—especially in the middle of all the noise?

Prayer:
Lord, in a world quick to speak and slow to listen, make us people who live out Your Word. Help our faith not just to be heard in words, but seen in deeds of love. Amen.
